The Do's And Dont's Of Working At Home

We know that with the pandemic we are all forced to work from home and does come with its own challenges. That is why we have chosen to create this short and powerful post.



The Do's:

  • First of all, make sure you set up your new office in an area that is quiet and away from any disturbances.

  • Snack Up! Get all of your snacks and coffee ready before you sit down to get that work done. And most importantly, make sure its healthy and not too much sugar, because after every boost you can expect a low.

  • Have some brain teaser toys or puzzles on your desk so they help you focus for when your mind starts wandering.

  • Do some light 10 min walking or yoga/stretching during your small breaks to help deal with those aches and pains of working from a chair for 8 hours a day.

  • Subscribe to newsletters that will help you get into that flow mindset before you start working and to stay up to date.

  • If your house or environment is cluttered, set aside 1 hour per day, before you get started on your work, to get some organizing and cleaning done. We have noticed a big difference in our house just from 1 to 2 hours per day. If there are areas in your house that you dread getting done, write them down separately sticky notes or pieces of paper, fold them up, and pick one from a bowl. It has definitely been a game changer, in helping us tackle those areas in the house that we never get to but we can't help to be distracted by the clutter or mess.

The Don'ts:

  • Don't Over Caffeinate! No, seriously the effects will have you less productive and you won't be able to focus on what is in front of you.

  • Don't go down that rabbit hole! Working from home sure does make it a lot easier to go down a rabbit hole and stay there. Make sure to be able to identify when you are in the rabbit hole and have measures/techniques to get yourself back on track. Our advice is to identify 3 main priority tasks. Sometimes there is more than 20 tasks that need to get done ASAP. But identify which tasks need to be completed in order to allow you to move on to the next task. Tackle those tasks first, then take a break do some yoga, or take a walk. After you have cleared your mind return to your list and identify the next 3 priority tasks.

  • Don't multitask too much! We have found it is better to devote a chunk of time to your work and schedule house chores before you get going, during one of your big breaks, or in the evenings when your completed your work day.

  • If you have children or pets, make sure that they fed, clean and kept busy when you decide to sit down and get stuff done. There is nothing harder than to try to stay productive while you hear your dog bark to go outside or your kids need your attention.
